Running High, 04.17.08
Okay it’s not what you think, I wasn’t running high! I’m on a runner’s high right now after coming back from a run/jog/walk at the lake. I’m being specific when I say run/jog/walk because at times I ran, jogged or walked. After almost 3 1/2 years of living in Oakland, I have yet to run the full 3.5 mile lake without stopping. I’m so ashamed!!
How am I to run a 5K when I can’t even run!? I’m going to really have to push myself. I guess it’s more of a mental thing. On a good note, I enjoyed my run tremendously. It was the first time I got to run without Long aka Mr. Arms dangerously dangling! Very calm and relaxing. Let’s see if I can make this a morning thing.
Okay on to the food
BREAKFAST:
Bowl of Oatmeal
Hot cup of Organic Sumatra
SNACK:
A while back I came across a nutritional analysis website where you enter in a recipes ingredients (food items & how much etc), but didn’t actually put it to use until this afternoon. I was just curious what my fruit smoothie really consisted of instead of just fruit, flax, and soy milk.
First here’s the recipe:
Strawberry-mango smoothie
Serves ~2 people (~10 oz each)
½ cup of frozen mango cubes
½ cup of frozen whole strawberries
1 small orange, including pulp and juice
½ cup of fresh orange juice
¾ cup of Silk Vanilla soymilk
1 T. of ground Flaxseed
And here are my findings:
Calories: 158
Total fat 3g
CHO 30g
Fiber 5g
Sugars 12g
Protein 4g
Vit A 18% Calcium 16%
Vit C 120% Iron 8%
If anyone’s interested you can go to Nutrition Data’s website:
Strawberry Mango Smoothie
LUNCH:
Whole wheat linguine with asparagus, mushrooms, onions, garlic, eggplant, and sun dried tomatoes drizzled with a tiny bit of Hot Olive Oil
SNACKS:
Snack at a coffee shop in downtown Oakland. Banana Nut Bread with Martinelli’s Apple Grape Juice.
Pear

Your pasta combination is PERFECT, all my favorite veggies!

I *guarantee* you that you can run an entire 5k or that entire lake – without stopping. I also guarantee that it’s 100% psychological.. you’re just used to doing it with walk breaks. You might not be able to do it right away but with time & practice, it’ll be a piece of cake!
Eggplant is possibly the greatest veggie out there.. so I’m pretty sure your lunch must have been fantastic.

Awe, you’ll get to the point of running without stopping, I know it!
Your pictures still amaze me. Is it hard for you to track all the food? I have a hard time being patient enough to take pictures as I like my food hot, man!

Erika:
What you said about being used to taking walk breaks couldn’t be more TRUE! I’ll have to work on that. hehe. Can’t wait until I’m breezing on through.
Jill:
Thanks for the encouragement!
Sometimes I lose patience when taking the photos (that’s when my photos are blurry). Overall, since I have a good camera, it goes by pretty fast.

Don’t feel bad about the running, I KNOW I couldn’t do it and I walk miles each day. This vegan does not run. Why? I hate sweating and being out of breath. I’m weird like that. But I admire what you are doing. I think with practice, you should be able to do it eventually. I’m just proud of you for trying!
That pasta looks simple and fantastic!
